McKristiana Goes Irish for St. Paddy's
March 17, 2025
Station 12 celebrated St. Patrick's Day in a festive manner this year. The company held a Medal Day on March 15th followed by a company St. Paddy's Day Party as Claymont Fire Company stood by as an Engine Company cover. We even decorated our rigs to commemorate the holiday.
Many firefighters take pride in St. Patrick's day as a tradition of the Irish immigrants who could only find work as trash men, Police, or Firefighters as those were considered low paying unwanted jobs of the late 1800s and early 1900s. The irish and italians took pride in these careers and even had their sons, grandsons, and great grandsons follow suit. That is why you'll see a lot of Irish and Italian names on the back of firefighter coats in this country.
