House Fire - Bear
January 16, 2025
On Thursday, January 16, 2025 at approximately 1228 hours the Christiana Fire Company and automatic aid companies were dispatched to fire box 1237 in the Belltown Woods neighborhood by the New Castle County Fireboard. An off duty Delaware State Police Trooper was in the area and notified the 911 center that he discovered a house fire with a person trapped. Simultaneously, the 911 Center was receiving several calls that a residence was on fire with a person trapped.
Engine 12 had cleared a nearby incident just prior to the fire being dispatched and responded from the intersection of Pulaski Highway and Porter Road. They arrived as the box had just finished being dispatched to find a two story private dwelling with fire showing from the first floor. They established their own water supply at a hydrant outside of the residence, stretched an attack line and entered the residence to begin fire suppression. A few minutes later Tower 12 arrived and immediately initiated a search of the residence. Tower 12's crew located an unconscious adult female victim on the second floor of the residence, notified the incident commander and began to remove the victim. The Tower crew removed the victim by carrying her downstairs and through the front door to the awaiting medical personnel outside, which included Christiana Fire Company BLS Ambulance B12 and New Castle County Paramedics. The victim was transported to the Christiana Hospital for treatment.
The fire was extinguished and the remainder of the residence was searched to confirm that no additional persons were trapped inside. Battalion 12 operated as the "Christiana Command" for this incident and placed the incident "under control" at approximately 1257 hours. The fire is under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office. #ChristianaFire
