3 Alarm Building Fire - Newark

10/22/2024 (NEWARK, DE 19702): On Monday, October 21, 2024 at 11:34 p.m. the Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company was dispatched with mutual aid companies to a commercial structure fire at 79 Albe Drive in the Old Baltimore Pike Industrial Park. The New Castle County 911 Center received several calls that included reports of explosions inside the building.
Battalion 12(Consalo) arrived to find an approximately 50 foot by 300 foot building with fire showing through the roof and a partial collapse of the structure and established the Newark Command. Engine 12 arrived as first due engine deploying a 2.5” attack line as Ladder 12 arrived next and forced entry to the middle of the building to stop the progression of the fire. An immediate request was made for a second alarm assignment. At 11:53 p.m. a request was made for a third alarm assignment to the incident. Delmarva Power and Light was requested to secure utility service to the structure. Old Baltimore Pike was closed to traffic during the firefighting operation.
The situation was brought under control at 2:00 a.m. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries because of this incident. All fire department vehicles and personnel cleared the scene at 3:36 a.m.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
