August ended with a few vehicle fires and crashes. On August 30th Engine 12,6,28 and Squad 3 were alerted to a commercial bus on fire on Route 1 south bound at Christiana Rd. Engine 12 arrived to find a bus on fire in the area of the Engine compartment. The bus was evacuated and Engine 12 got a line on the fire. Crews used two tanks of water to extinguish the fire. Christiana units ran three more automobile fires that day and the next. On August 29th a Interstate 95 box was alerted for a vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer. Engine 9 and Engine 12 arrived to find a tractor trailer off the roadway with a saddle tank leaking. DNREC was alerted and one injury was transported to the trauma center. Later that evening another I95 box was alerted for a crash in the same area. This crash involved a private vehicle that struck work crews that were cleaning up from the crash involving the tractor trailer. Engine 12, Squad 3 and Rescue 8 arrived to find four injuries. All four were taken to Christiana Trauma center. Thankfully no one from the work crews were injured. Units remained on the scene for 45 minutes.
