Busy Saturday - Multiple Calls - Christiana

April 17, 2010 - The Christiana Fire Company (Stations 3, 6, and 12) had a busy Saturday morning. At 9:46 am, Christiana was dispatched to assist the Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder Company, Newark (Stations 7, 8, 9, and 10) for a dryer fire at the Whispering Pines Townhouses. Engine 3-4 and Rescue 12-6 responded. A-8 arrived on location and reported smoke showing from a two story townhouse. Engine 8-2 arrived and stretched a 1 ¾ inch attack line. Rescue 12-6 arrived next and took the position of the 1st due special services. The crew from 12-6 conducted a primary search, ventilated the dwelling and placed ground ladders. Crews operated for approximately ½ hour before being released. While returning from Newark, 12-6 was dispatched to the Christiana Mall for a general fire alarm. As 12-6 was leaving the mall complex Christiana Ambulance B-3 was dispatched to the Cavalier Apartments for medical call. Because of their proximity 12-6 responded to assist B-3. At 10:54 am The Christiana Fire Company was dispatched to assist the Delaware City Fire Company (Station 15) on a dwelling fire at Red Lion Chase. 3-4 and 6-6 made the response and stood-by on location until the fire was placed under control. At 11:06 am as 12-6, 3-4 and 6-6 were returning from their respective calls, the company was dispatched to Songsmith Lane and Governor’s Place along with A-32 for a motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle. Assistant Chief Matt Lutz (6-8B) arrived on location and assumed command. The crews of 12-6, 3-4 and 6-6 worked to assist EMS with patient care and controlled the scene hazards. A-32 transported one patient to Christiana Hospital. The New Castle County Paramedics and Christiana Fire Company Fire Police also operated at the scene. In the afternoon at 2:48 pm, The Christiana Fire Company was dispatched to Elm Drive and Salem Church Road for a motor vehicle crash with one vehicle reported to be overturned with entrapment. 3-4 and 12-6 made the response. 3-4 arrived on location with an SUV on its roof with one subject still in the vehicle. The crew from 3-4 stabilized the vehicle and prepared for extrication as the victim began to self-extricate. 12-6 arrived and both crews assisted EMS with patient care and controlled the scene hazards. Christiana EMS units transported several patients to Christiana Hospital. Assistant Chief Matt Lutz (6-8B) had command. The New Castle County Paramedics and Christiana Fire Company Fire Police also responded. Christiana EMS units responded to 22 calls for Saturday April 17th.
