On February 28th Box 1232 was sounded for an attached garage on fire in Belltown Woods of Pulaski Hwy. Engine 6 arrived to find a haze in the garage. The crew got a attack line in service and found the fire had been extinguished by the homeowner. The area was checked for extension. None was found and the assignment was reduced to 1-1. Units were held on the scene for 20 minutes. On March 10th a Hazmat box 1210 was transmitted for a hazard condition in School Bell Gardens off School Bell Rd. E12,E6, Recce/ Engine 3,Hazmat 14,!6 and Engine 17 were assigned. Units arrived to find a small package with a radioactive sticker on the container. The hazmat team along with DNREC investigated and found the item to be nonhazardous. The assignment was reduced and DNREC handed the disposal of the item. Units remained on the scene for one hour. On March 12 an assignment was alerted for I95 at West Basin Rd. There was confusion as to the location of the crash. Units were deployed to two different locations. Ambulance 23 arrived to find one person confined in the car. The other location was checked with no findings and all units were assigned to the confirmed location. Rescue 23 and Engine 12 removed the door. The patient was taken to Christiana trauma center in stable condition. On March 13th Christiana Fire Company was alerted to a MVC trapped. Units arrived to find a car on it’s side with a person who was unable to exit. The car was stabilized by Engine 6,Engine 3 and Rescue Engine 12. The windshield was removed and the person was able to exit. The person refused transport and was not injured. Units cleared in 40 minutes. On March 9th 2013 CFC recruit school started. Recruit school teaches our new members the basics of the fire service from Firefighting to EMS care. We have a cooperative effort this year with Odessa Fire Company. www.ofc424.com There are twelve students enrolled from both companies. Graduation will be in Late April.
