MVC and Two Small Fires - Rt 1 at Christiana Mall

On July 10th Engine 12 was alerted to a multi residential fire at the Village Two apartments off Salem Church Church.(Aetna's local) Engine 12 arrived with smoke showing. The crew quickly deployed an attack line and extinguished a small kitchen fire. Chief Hendricks then scaled back the assignment. Engine 12 remained on the scene for 45 minutes. On Sunday July 17th Engine 6 was alerted as the RIT Company to North Saint Georges for a multiple dwelling fire. Units from Delaware City FD arrived and had smoke coming from the roof. The crew arrived and developed a rescue plan in conjunction with command. Engine 6 remained on the scene for 20 minutes before being released. At about 1330 hrs on July 17th Ambulance B6 came upon a MVC with a person trapped under a crane boom in the construction area off Route 1 NB at the Christiana Mall. Christiana Fire Company was alerted and Rescue 23 was special called by the BLS crew. Crews arrived and started extrication of the patient. Medic 2A and the EMS Sergeant were treating the patient in conjunction with the BLS crew. Deputy Chief Cowperthwait arrived and established command and requested a 1st alarm structural assignment for manpower and equipment. During the operation the patient succumbed to her injuries. The patient was pronounced by New Castle County paramedics in conjunction with the Christiana Trauma Center. After the pronouncement the assignment was scaled back and the Delaware State Police investigated. The patient was removed from the car after the preliminary investigation was concluded. Units cleared the scene in 4 hours.
