High Angle Rescue

Saturday, December 16, 2023

On Tuesday, December 12, 2023 just before 1000 hours Ladder 12, Special Operations 12 (SO12) and Battalion 12 responded as part of the High Angle Confined Space Rescue Team to assist the Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder Company with a sudden cardiac arrest patient on the roof of a commercial property. Ladder 12 and SO12 found Aetna and county paramedics providing life saving interventions to a patient approximately 30’ high on the roof. Ladder 12, SO12 and other members from the county HACSR Team set up a twin tension lowering system, anchored to Ladder 12’s aerial as a high point. The patient was lowered in a stokes basket with an attendant attached for airway management complications. The patient was transferred to the care of medical resources on the ground and transported to the Christiana Hospital. The crews on scene completed a de-briefing of the incident after the patient was transferred due to the infrequency of these incidents.
