On April 5th at 0146 hours Box 1218 was sounded for fire from the roof of a apartment building at 600 Brandywine Drive in Bear. As units were responding the box was upgraded to a working fire adding RIT, one engine and one truck, ALS/BLS.  Engine 126 arrived to find fire thru the roof on a large multiple dwelling. Engine 12 transmitted the 2nd alarm. The chief of the 12th Battalion arrived and took command and transmitted the 3rd alarm. He then switched to a defensive strategy.  A primary search was completed before the box went defensive. Several master streams and ladder pipes were operated and the fire was contained and extinguished after several hours. A 4th and 5th alarm were transmitted for relief purposes and overhaul.  There were two minor firefighter injuries and one civilian injury.  Companies operated for 9 hours. The Delaware state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire. The estimated loss was 1 million dollars.
