At about 0100 on April 30th Christiana Fire Company and surrounding companies were alerted to a townhouse fire with people trapped. E126 was out of position clearing up from a MVC on i95. Engine 66 responded immediately. The 911 center reported subjects jumping and hanging from the windows. Deputy Chief Cowperthwait arrived to find fire showing from the first floor window and door. Engine 66 arrived secured a water supply and stretched an attack line thru the front door. Several residents had escaped the fire and were being evaluated by EMS at a nearby home. The fire was quickly controlled and the primary search proved negative. Six residents were transported to Christiana hospital for evaluation. Christiana units operated for 2 hours. The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire. There were no firefighter injuries.
