House Fire

Friday, January 29, 2021

On Thursday, January 28, 2021 at approximately 1045 hours box 1810 was dispatched for a residential fire. Engine 12 and Ladder 12 made the response as part of the box assignment. Engine 12 arrived as the second due engine and placed a second hand line in service behind Engine 18’s initial hand line. Ladder 12 arrived as the second due special service and began assisting with the primary searches. A firefighter from Ladder 12 was on the first floor conducting a search when the floor began to give way beneath him. The collapse was not sudden and the firefighter was able to control his descent to the basement on his own after determining the safest means of egress was to continue to the basement rather than try and be pulled back up. Command was informed that a firefighter went into the hole and command transmitted a mayday to hold radio traffic until it was determined the firefighter was okay and it can be cleared. The firefighter walked out of the basement through a rear walk out and the mayday was cleared. Our firefighter suffered no injuries and was able to continue on with his pre-assigned fire ground duties. The searches were completed and it was determined the resident was not home at the time of the fire. Engine 12 and Ladder 12 cleared after a few hours. Squad 12 was staffed to cover the regional area during the fire, and they handled several incidents during that time. #ChristianaFire
