3rd Alarm Building Fire

Tuesday, August 15, 2017

On August 9th Box U998 was transmitted for smoke in the building on East Delaware Ave at the University of Delaware. Engine 9 arrived and reported smoke in the building. As the assignment arrived units were put to work locating the fire and searching the building for trapped occupants. Companies found a fire in the basement of the building with extension to the second floor. Command transmitted a second alarm as the first alarm units worked in heat and smoke. As the emergency progressed all searches were negative and the fire areas were overhauled. A third alarm was transmitted as well as a request for two additional engines for relief. With Ladder 9 arriving late after coming from a special event in Pennsylvania the apparatus complement was that of a fourth alarm. Units worked into the early evening making sure all the smoke was removed from the building. One firefighter was transported to Christiana hospital in stable condition. The fire is under investigation
