Working Apartment Fire - Cavalier Apartments

On August 27th at approximately 11 pm box 1214 was sounded for a multiple dwelling fire on Golf View Drive in the Cavalier Apartment complex. Squad 126 arrived with smoke showing from the 3rd floor Adam side of a 3 story 6 unit multiple occupancy dwelling. 126 layed in from the nearest hydrant and placed 200' of 1¾" line in service. Firefighters Jones and Miller advanced to the area of the fire and began to make a knock on the fire. Engine 235 (Minquas) arrived and assisted the first due engine. Ladder 28 (Wilmington Manor) arrived and conducted a search of the fire floor and fire apartment. Ladder 12's inside team assisted with the primary search. The outside teams of L28 and L12 along with Squirt 21 and 26 (Millcreek) placed ground ladders to the Adam and Charlie sides of the building. Squad 36 arrived and placed a protection of egress line in service to the 3rd floor (200' 1¾"). Engine 324 (Wilmington Manor) was assigned RIT under the command of Chief 288 (Hopkins). Rescue 18 (Goodwill of New Castle) was assigned to search the David exposure which is also a 6 unit 3 story building attached to the fire building. Squad 66 conducted the secondary search of the fire building and exposure, and later assisted with overhaul. Engine 165 (Elsmere) was sent to station 12 for an engine cover and BLS 15 (Delaware City) covered the district for EMS. The fire was determined to be accidental in nature. The Red Cross assisted with placement of 4 adults. The incident commander was Deputy Chief Perillo, Chief of Operations.
